Alexander Grischuk, born October 31, 1983, in Moscow. The Russian chess player, grandmaster since 1999. He is a two-time winner of the World Chess Olympiads (2000, 2002) and a four-time winner of the World Team Chess Championships as part of team Russia (2005, 2010, 2013 and 2019). He is the 2009 champion of Russia. He is a three-time world blitz champion (2006, 2012, 2015) and an honored master of sports of Russia (2013).
His peak rating is 2810 (as of December 2014). The current rating is 2777 (as of April 2021). He is number two in Russia, and number six in the world.
He is the only Candidates tournament participant who used to be the world champion, albeit in blitz. Armed with spades of experience, Alexander Grischuk knows his way around any situation that might arise on the chessboard. Along with Fabiano Caruana, he is a serious contender for the tournament victory.
He has earned his ticket into the Candidates as the top two finishers in the FIDE Grand Prix 2019.
Grischuk is known in the chess world for his sparkling interviews and trademark comments at the press conferences.
